Mechas, defined as 'giant robots or machines typically depicted as piloted and as humanoid walking vehicles[1]. In this world, there are two types of mechs: one that's closer to a basic machine that are the first generation and another that's way more humanoid and classic mecha that's the second generation.
The first generation took the merging of many minds to develop, originally made as a way to aid large intelligent monsters in finding suitible habitats, to help escape endangerment. They have one major flaw, being obscenely hot, pushing them to develop a second generation. The second generation also has the addition of flight and space travel to aid in major flights and expeditions.
Both generations have their own pool of pilots, going through rigorous training specified for the machine they work with.

Generation One
The first generation was developed by the Foundation[2] to help aid giant smart monsters, like dragons, find a place to be themselves away from the often harmful eyes of humans. They're pretty darn hot, with the first pilot dying mid-test. Now the pilots have to basically be naked and intubated with supplements to pilot the machines.
They work based on the age-old saying 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' They're able to lift many times it's weight and withstand a great deal of wear and tear but the shortcoming is that they're land-bound. There became an increasing need for them to be able to traverse the oceans and many people thought it'd just be cool if they could be in space too. This thinking aided in the creation of the second generation.
The original set of pilots were all women, due to the theory that they have lower body temperatures and might be able to get out of a mishap easier. There were originally nine pilots, earning them the nickname the 'nonary.'[3]
Generation Two
Generation two is basically a gundam. Like, without a bulk of the weaponry, they can fly easily and are notably larger than the original design. They have all the same abilites as the original set but they are miraculously temperature controlled and able to traverse the deep sea and space, oxygen tank willing. Since it's a more recent development, there's only three of them and they don't have a quirky nickname yet.
With the involvement of the government in the development of this generation, these guys pack a bit more of a punch. They're equipped with much more weaponry and evasive capabilities in anticipation of future dangers. With flight included, they're also capable of accelerated lateral movement (quick dashing) and equipped with guns and swords.
The Foundation
Tzeeva
Tzeeva is the founder of the Foundation[2] and all-around scientific deviant.
He built his company from his friendships and relationships with monster and bounty hunters to develop the first mechs to help with monster rehabilitation and the destruction left behind from them wreaking havok. This obviously attracted attention from the government and they struck a deal to fund development for new mechs and to coordinate on further use of the machines. Tzeeva secretly used these funds for scientific experiments, which slowly became an open secret.
With his main goal being to basically live forever, his main project was to develop valid clones to magically transfer his conciousness. The transfer was a success and when the government found out, they voted to break up the company or have him step down. He elected to step down to just a board member and appointed Dr. Byrdiand, his top scientist, and Sarge, a favored officer in the military, as co-directors of the company.
After officially changing his name to the shortened 'Tzeev,' the guy basically is living his second life to the fullest, throwing balls for his billionaire friends and slinging science everywhere. He jokes that with every clone, he'll shorten his name until he'll just be 'T.'
Dr. Arabia Byrdiand
Lead scientist for many of Tzeev's projects, Dr. Byrd readily accepted becoming co-director of the company. It's a common rumor that because of her consistent complaining, he basically said 'do it yourself' and gave her the position. She first started working with him while in college, after he gifted her a grant for continued work on her prosthetic projects.
She doubted Yusef's use beyond appearance until he'd proven himself a few times, then became his biggest cheerleader. Media sources often remark Dr. Byrd as the brains of the company but many times she is the spearhead behind acquisitions and major moves for the company. As she get's older in age, she finds it incresingly difficult to reject Tzeev's offers for clone rebirth, as she is a loving grandmother and, contrary to her often cold and commanding appearance in public, she's ultimately a family-oriented woman.
Yusef "Sarge" boston
Working his way through the military, Yusef followed all the correct steps to becoming a sergeant, and was proud of it. He naturally skated along due to his likable personality and good looks. So when he was put in the co-director position to be the face, he took this chance to show his abilites.
His focus is on the balance between public safety and the defensive use of mechs. With the development of the second generation of mechs and the direct support from the government, the use for the new mechs changed to include defensive and offensive capabilites. Having studied with numerous colleagues skilled in mechanical warfare, Yusef spearheaded the development of these features for the second generation. Also being a secret dweeb, he's connected with friends in the Space Federation to help work on the aerodynamic capabilites and innovations in their weaponry, like gunswords and railguns.
His friendship with is fellow co-director Dr.Byrd was unexpected but board members and associates often confirm that their bond is the reason the company has seen a second wind after Tseev stepped down. They still show up in tabloids pictured out together at cafes and restaurants.
The Space Federation
The Space Federation is the international agency that controls the space program responsible for aeronautic and space research, design, and exploration.
